Week 3 - Getting Technical

As we move into week three, I have begun to shift into more technical work, utilizing my software engineering skills. After gathering requirements, creating a lo-fi prototype, and refining based on feedback from my mentor, I was tasked with creating a high-level web portal to display data from an IoT device. I had the freedom to choose my own stack, so after weighing different options, I settled on something that will hopefully allow for scalability in the future, also by including documentation that will guide others through my codebase.       I set up a CI/CD pipeline early on to ensure no roadblocks for frontend deployment while also ensuring compatibility with the backend integration. While I have the main components set up, the more I started to delve into details about routes and specific pages, I recognized I needed to reconvene with my mentor to get an idea of how high-level we want to be, while also aligning with f...

Week 2 - Lo-fi Prototype

It's my second week, and as things start to pick up with more projects and meetings, I remain excited about what the future holds for my project! It has involved a significant amount of research (and many questions) to develop a low-fidelity prototype of what the Web Portal might look like. While the features I plan to implement during the internship are not as extensive as those displayed in the prototype and user flow documentation, my intention when creating it was to ensure that the basis of how I structure the layout is scalable for future implementation. The lo-fi prototype took me longer, as I found myself going into too much detail when the intention was to display the core functionalities. I was glad I kept it high-level, as there were specific edits to be made after receiving feedback from my mentor.  Outside of my work at Roadrs, I attended the ice cream social, where I met many amazing people! The past intern panel was ...

Week 1 - Exciting Start!

My name is Celine Chahine, and I am a senior studying Software Engineering and CIS Mathematics at the University of  Michigan-Dearborn. It's been an exciting week as I've finally been able to meet up with my startup and establish the projects I'll be working on over the next nine weeks. The company I will be working with, Roadsr, specializes in developing safety technology for fleet drivers.        My first week involved being introduced to the team and completing the onboarding process. My first task was conducting a market study on the current software solutions available in the fleet management industry.  As this was my first time conducting market research, it was interesting to see how different companies have taken various approaches to improving fleet management and generating actionable insights. I performed a feature analysis to identify potential gaps within fleet management solutions and customer pain points. ...
